The Lives & Times of Indie Movie Makers

About the Brainroot

First, the company:

Brainroot Light and Sound, LLC is a young video production company serving non-profit organizations and small businesses in the Kansas City area.  It was created in February, 2009 by Paul Benedict and Chris Cook.  Prior to starting Brainroot L.A.S. we had been working as freelance videographers in Chicago and Iowa.  Our current clients include Rockhurst University, the Kansas City Art Institute, and Water.org.

Blah, blah, blah.

Not that we don’t take the business of our company seriously, because we do.  Or that we don’t enjoy the business side, because we do.  It’s just that the “company” is only half of Brainroot.

Like our mulit-hemisphered gray matter, Brainroot spends about half its time thinking about worldly things and the other of its time in that mysterious pursuit known as art.  This blog, for the most part, chronicles our journey as artists; our attempt to find a way to make a living entertaining you, the dear reader.

Art, like everything in life, can either be enriching or destructive, outwardly-focused or derisive.  Sometimes, it’s just not very good:

Let choirs sing well or not at all. Otherwise we merely confirm the majority in their conviction that the world of business, which does with such efficiency so much that never really needed doing, is the real, the adult, and the practical world; and that all this culture and religion (horrid words both) are essentially marginal, amateurish, and rather effeminate activities.

- C. S. Lewis

We hope you enjoy our work.
